Get to Know: Iain Shield – Digital Value Communications Consultant

(electronic music) – Hi there, I’m Iain Shield, I’m a consultant in our digital
team here at Mtech Access. What do I enjoy most? I think it’s got to be
the people I work with. But I think the spirit of the company, and the space that we have to innovate. It’s been exciting to
work on new products, we work on a platform
called Connected Insights, and it’s a platform that
allows us to pull data from disparate sources and
put it all in one place, and create visuals, and illustrations, if you like, of what’s going on in
those health economies, and that’s really an
exciting thing to work on. So, pleased to be working on that. Probably balancing all
the competing needs. We have a lot to do, a lot to get through, we’ve got to meet our clients’ deadlines. But that said, we’re an
experienced bunch of people, many of us have been working for over 10 years in market access. So, there’s always someone
that knows what to do, and if you’re stuck, someone
can help out where required. But I think it’s probably
balancing those needs, and being pragmatic about how
to accomplish our projects in the times that we need to. Okay, so, no two days
are the same I suppose, there are quite a few stages
to creating dashboards, and so it could be working with the client to identify a story, and develop a story. Think about what data to
include and how to present that, it could be thinking out visualizations, working with the development team to enhance the product to
deliver exactly what we need to for our clients. It could be actually building
the dashboards themselves, and working through how best to leverage the data that we have and how best to illustrate that. It’s exciting, really,
it’s exciting to be able to look at the data and
try and identify trends and anomalies in those data. Sometimes it’s rewarding to be able to spot something unusual or
spot something interesting that may come to light as
a result of the work we do in the dashboards, that
would otherwise go unnoticed just looking at data and data tables. Outside of work, I do a
lot, I’m a serial hobbyist, and enjoy all sorts of outdoor things, and perhaps enjoy most time
with family and friends. But I also enjoy the
creative aspect to my job and I take that home with
throwing and firing ceramics. No one knows that I rescued a kid from drowning this summer. We were camping next to Ullswater, and a child got into difficulty, and I swam out and rescued him. I’m a consultant in a
market access agency. I work in our digital team
on value communications, and I get to work with great
people on great products, making a difference to market access, and ultimately, ensuring
that patients get treatments. (electronic music)
