I’ve been a Haematologist for over twenty years now and sadly as part of my job I quite frequently have to talk to people around their diagnosis and give them very bad news and some people might think that gets easier as time goes by but I’m hear to tell you it doesn’t, it doesn’t get any easier at all and what I have learned is that if you’re very clear, honest and
open with patients it makes the process a little bit easier and patients really
appreciate that and I certainly noticed over the years that the occasional small act of kindness can really stick in a patient’s mind and make all the difference to their
experience and what they feel about what’s happening to them and it’s
sometimes staggering how grateful people can be for just simple care and kindness Kind words don’t cost anything but they mean so much so please don’t just communicate, connect People don’t always remember what is said to them but they always remember just how they have been made to feel Think about walking in their shoes, how would you like to be treated today?
