Broadcast 4 Reps

Hi, I’m Coffe Rocks of Thrall Nation
in the Brave Collective. I’m Rixx Javix, CEO of Stay Frosty
and Executor of A Band Apart Alliance. I’m CCP Mimic. I’m Sindel Pellion. I’m Cagali Cagali. Hi, I’m Tengu Grib. Hi, I’m CCP Guard. And we’re here to talk about
something very important. EVE Online is often called many things. Sociopaths in space. A haven to thieves and scammers. A universe of bullies. And, honestly, there’s some
truth in that. In EVE I will shoot you. I will gank your favorite ship. I’ll loot your corpse. I will add that corpse to my wonderfully
fantastic and ever growing collection! I will scam you out of everything you own. I will infiltrate your alliance. And I will make your entire
space empire burn to ash, gladly, in a heart beat. I might even laugh at you afterwards. I might post about it on the forums. And then I’ll tell you to harden the fuck up. But, always remember, that’s
only in the context of the game. Good or bad, pirate or angel, we all play EVE because we
love being part of this community. And you are a part
of that same community. You… you! Part of us. Sadly, every year we lose fellow gamers
to a horrible affliction that touches every race. Every religion. Every creed and every culture. It affects everyone on this planet
in one way or another. What makes this malady so horrible
is that it can be prevented. We’re here to talk to you about suicide. Every forty seconds, there is another
death by suicide in the world. There are a lot of reasons why
so many people die by suicide. Depression. Loss of a loved one. Anxiety and stress. Financial hardship. Mental illness. Addiction. And the EVE community is
not immune to any of this. Every year, we lose some of
our fellow gamers to suicide. Sometimes, we look back
and see the signs were there. But we just didn’t realize it. Sometimes, it comes as a shock,
seemingly out of nowhere. I’m Mom Bellicose,
John Bellicose’s mom. My son John had a brilliant
mind, a compassionate heart and was renowned for his kindness. He was a natural teacher. His grandmother used to call him “The Professor”. John was a very popular teacher of
Brave Newbies, which is not surprising. John loved playing Internet Spaceships. He tried to recruit me more than once. John also suffered from crippling depression
and that’s why I’m here talking to you. John’s battle with depression ended
in April 2014 when he died by suicide. I want John to be remembered
for more than how he died. He loved to teach, so we must talk about
depression, mental illness and suicide. Talking about suicide saves lives. It’s a way we can keep John’s memory alive
and help build a legacy for him. If you struggle with depression or any
other form of mental illness, seek help. Please reach out. I know that’s easier said than done,
but it must be done. If you don’t feel like you
deserve help, then do it for John. Do it for me. Because you matter! You absolutely matter more than you can ever know
or that depression would ever want you to believe. Reach out for help. Broadcast for Reps. If you are having thoughts
of suicide, please ask for help. From your friends.
From your family. From us, your fellow corpmates. Please, broadcast, Please, broadcast for reps. “Broadcast For Reps” is a suicide prevention
initiative started by your fellow capsuleers. You will find a host of resources available to you
when you reach out to “Broadcast for Reps”. There is a wiki on the EVE subreddit. The hashtag on Twitter and Facebook. You will find references to Broadcast
for Reps around the EVE community. In the game, you can even join the
chat channel “Broadcast for Reps” to to find someone to chat with. You can speak to a group, or even ask
for someone to talk to one-on-one. The people who participate are not professionals. They are gamers just like you
who are here to listen. To help. To offer a friendly ear
if you choose to talk. You are not alone. We are here with you. We want you to stay with us. For the rest of our lives. So I can fly with you. So I can shoot with you. So you can gank me. Please don’t gank me. Thanks… So I can mine with you. So I can jump your goods. So you’ll buy my loot. We love you. So please, Broadcast For Reps. Fly Safe And Fly Brave Fly Safe Fly Safe Praise James.

I suffer from depression myself. It is a daily struggle to keep myself focused on other things.. EVE has been a great help over the last nearly 9 years I've been playing. I've had fellow corp mates pull me from the darkest pits of hell. Thank you for this. It's good to see this community being strong. I hope I won't need to ask for this amazing help.. But it's comforting at least a little to know it's there. o7

Wow..this vid totally made me cry. I JUST went through this less than a week ago with my brother over the loss of his baby. Luckily, he is still with us thanks to a friend who suspected something wasn't right with him. This is a great thing. I may be a vindictive [email protected]*#h and a pirate who will shoot you in the face in game..but irl I am a mother and a caring person..as are the majority of us. If EVER you need someone, we are here. Outside of the in game douchebaggery and debauchery, we are all the same, vulnerable, and human people. Sometimes we need help. I have bouts of depression, so I know how it can be. You are never alone. ..and Tengu..ty so much. It's a powerful message and it just shows that Eve players are like no others and the best out there. I ♥ you all.

I recently lost my son, SIDS, 5 months 3 days old, 70cm and 8.1kg, healthiest boy doctors have seen, yet he died.
A few days after the funeral I get a call at 9AM, one of my old corp mates who left the game a year or 3 ago. He talked to me about how my son died and how I felt, and we kept talking. This aussie had plexed our accounts so we could run a mission at 10am my time. we had coffee together, I was in the shittiest tengu ever, but I focused on something else. Little after DT we logged, he went to sleep, I had to focus on survival. I started logging in more, plexed another account, talked to old friends.
Moved to 0.0, haven't done anything but focusing on getting an index up. It's not much I do, but it's keeping me connected to the people who I've spent years with.
I've tried explaining how I felt and they're carrying me, I try to commit, I buy ships for fleets I dont attend, I see pings on my mobile yet I never go there. at this point I'm unable to function I think. My wife and I have taken the biggest hit that was possible and we both lost safe ground in our lives. Our jobs which are both in public things have become one of the biggest demons, We're constantly sad at work because of the general public.
A few days ago we had a serious chat about what would be next for us. There isn't really anything we want to do, life has pretty much lost it's meaning.

It's a very nasty day when everything you see, every new item in your life, every day you look and think to yourself I could tell my kid about this. every moment yet to come will be covered in grief.

Every day I try to log in, say hi to people that are connected to me

I'm bi-polar and have my good days and days bad enough where I need a reminder like this to pierce through that dark cloud. To remind me that there are people that care whether it's in game, other online friends or even my local friends and family. Thank you Coffee Rocks and thank you CCP for caring enough to take the time to make this for us. I appreciate it and will share it with those that might appreciate it too.

On the other hand, now I need to pod you for making me choke up. 🙂

Eve is a place where for the most part you can forget real life for a while, forget the things that drag us down into that black hole of depression. Live an alternate life that allows us to express ourselves differently without the restraints of 'normality' and be someone different with people you would never be able to interact with on a daily basis. My wife passed way back in 2004, and after the people left my house, the 'sorry for your loss' messages had been done the silence was almost deafening. As the reality of being alone after 20 years hit so did the depression and so I turned back to the game for an escape to somewhere else less dark. Eve became more than a game at that point for me, the people in it became more than just a pixel eye view of someone the other side of the globe they became friends of the real kind…. the moral support and kindness shown by everyone who knew me in game was astounding and something I will not forget and will always be grateful for.

So to anyone going through any one of the thousands of dark places the human mind can take us, watch this video, listen to it, understand it's message and reach out. You will be seriously surprised at just how many of the wickedly wild people in that universe of ours are happy to listen and help.

There are no rules in #broadcast4reps on what constitutes something that should be reported to CCP. That said, don't necessarily expect a friendly convo to work things out, and have it end with you feeling better. If you say anything about suicide expect at least one person is going to think a better safe than sorry mentality justifies sending a ticket to CCP, who will contact INTERPOL, who will then send your local police after you. You likely will be subjected to an involuntary visit to your local hospital for a psych exam. #broadcast4reps has cost at least one person their job b/c of CCP sending the police after them, so if you talk to this channel…this can happen.

Hmm so the main cause of suicide is a negative environment to live in…. yet your very game proudly provides a negative environment to live in…. seems legit.

Want to help stop suicide? Dont promote negative environments…. like you know your game.

I've been coming here to this video for going on two months now, every time I feel a bit down. I feel like I should chime in and share my story, about 2 years ago I started dating a nice cute girl who was the world to me, little did I know that not even five days after we started dating, she would start doing terrible things to me, she would abuse me in any way she could, be that physical, mental, emotional, and even… sexual… to put it simply, she raped me… and she did it more than once… she would guilt me into letting her do it, by threatening to cut if I didn't and I knew she had a history will attempting suicide so I didn't wan't to risk her actually doing anything… so I let her rape me… Every time I felt like less of a man… every time I felt more trapped… and every time I felt more broken…

Needless to say that is something I would love to forget, but it has caused me to now have a fear of women, to the point that I can't even talk strait on voice coms with my female corp mates. It also left me with severe depression and on top of that I already had terrible anxiety…

There is a glint of light I can see though, my corp is a great group of people, they have stood by me and even the people who have come and gone from my corp still check in on me to make sure I'm okay, and I'm grateful for every one of them. Though that doesn't mean I don't still have really bad days, and I have had a knife to my wrist many time ready to end it all.

Its been a tough almost two years, come the 28th it will be exactly two years, days like that one never forgets… Part of me will always wonder what would have become of me without EVE… It was about March 2nd when I was telling a good friend and corp mate what my now ex girlfriend was doing to me, and he was shocked… His first words were, "You realize shes been raping you for three months now right?" I at the time didn't actually see what see was doing to me, I was to blinded by my love for her… I didn't say anything for a little bit, then he said, "You need to get away from her, break up, leave, if you don't I will come up to Canada and do it for you." and knowing him he would have. When I told him that I still loved her, he said or more rather yelled something that has burned into my brain and made me hate him for about a week, "I don't give a flying fuck if you still love her, stop being a god dam fucking idiot and break up with her!" the tone he said it in struck me the wrong way and I just left coms, I couldn't believe what he had just said to me. I went on a trip to visit some family at about that time so I had about a week to think over everything, and by the time the week was over I had forgiven him, because I realized he was looking out for me, and I broke up with my girlfriend, over text, I couldn't stand to actually be near her again… but the damage was already done… my life would turn into what it is now the very next moment…

I am lucky to have started playing EVE and to have made such a good friend. Sadly he no longer plays, but I now have more friends who have my back and one who has been keeping in touch even via Email to chat and talk with me. This may be a little sappy but thank you all, I hope to fly with some of you some day.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I would shoot every last one of you in the face in this game, but if I met you irl, you can all bet I'd buy you the best damn beer within walking distance (cuz I don't have a car, so you'll have to walk too…). Anyway, this is a brilliant initiative. I was going to say something on the forum post about this but I didn't want to interrupt any ongoing conversations. So this is where I'll just say that, and be off. I do have issues myself, but even with this…. as much as I love the EVE community, I have some deeply ingrained trust issues to complicate things, not to mention some self-overawareness that makes me feel bad about asking for help, so I don't. I just eat some steel and try to move on. I do alright, but it's good to know that if things ever get really bad, there's somewhere I can maybe turn if I'm brave enough to let myself lean on someone else for a moment.

The EVE community is comprised of an amazing group of players quite unlike any playerbase of any other MMORPG I have seen. The players support one another in times of need, and that is truly astounding. If you or someone you know is suffering from depression, point them here — these folks are willing to help. Thank you to the folks who started Broadcast 4 Reps, and thank you for those who keep it going and assist your fellow capsuleers recover on a daily basis. Your efforts are not going unnoticed.

Lost a couple of friends to depression, as one left behind, it's never any easier, and they will always be with me until I too return to dust. In both cases it was so utterly senseless, both were great people, both had a lot going for them, gorgeous partners, fantastic talents and opportunities and everything going for them. But both struggled with depression. Depression doesn't make sense from the inside, and is hard to understand from the outside but sometimes just the fact someone is there to be human alongside you is all you need. I am personally so glad Broadcast 4 Reps has been set up – and maybe, one day, when I don't have to cope with a crammed life, I will come join your band of volunteers. 0~'

Eve is the one thing that has kept me feeling a semblance of reality. Corp mates have helped, as have complete strangers. Eve truly has a magnificent player base. Even more so as a fellow eve player that I grew close with over the years, who ended up in a bad spot both financially and in personal matters to him.
About 3-4 years ago now, sent me a suicide note via a phone text. And despite my efforts to stop him, I lacked the resources to reach him in time and I never heard from him again after that.
The worst part is not knowing what happen to him, I never actually found out :/ .

I truly believe this will help people

As I sit here… entering the year 2017… I watch this video with fond reminisce. I look at the comments… I think of the THOUSANDS we have talked to in the in game and Discord channels. And I think… Damnit, no matter what we do in this life… we have each other to count on.

2016 was the worst year of my life. It was tough. But some of the volunteers of Spam 4 Heals and Broadcast 4 Reps saw me through it. I'm not just the President of the Board… this year, the CEO and some of the top folks in the charity helped me personally. And I never expected to be "that guy" that also needed help. God bless you, fellow gamers. God bless those that care about one another. About strangers. About life. About love.

You folks get it. Thank you. Keep up the good work. You saved my life, and thousands more. God…. Fuck what people say about gamers — you folks saved thousands of lives in the past few years. I love you.

Ok. Lets break this down to how i see this and how its going to end in my opinion. Take it how you want because everyone interpretation is different so i hope CCP does not take it as an insult but more as an outcry of the problem with the game.
For the Lord knows CCP will reap what they sow for the people that have died either by murder or by suicide. One of them said they didn't realize? REALLY!? Even a child can tell when someone does wrong and CCP can't tell if the game they created is causing a problem for the light hearten souls. It's hypocritical to say that is not what we intended yet you support the actions leading up to it because it part of the game. How does that work?

There are no safeguards in the game to prevent these losses except for people like me trying to make the game a better community. There is a reason why we have laws to reign in evil in the world today and when you take away these laws and let people play out evil in a video game its no longer a game because everything you say and do come from the heart. The fact that this game was the reason that made someone take their own life prematurely will not go unpunished and i suggest you guys repent for these sins. Don't tell me you are sorry tell it to the family and the one who died and do more to prevent it.

Video games are supposed to be a place to escape the stuff we deal with out in the real world on a daily bases and making a game where its worse to even live in because no matter where you go in the game players will kill you just to kill you, call you names, and back stab you does not help. There are game that ban people for such things. Sure there are plenty of games that allow killing and chat to trash talk each other but the line drawn is to close to the step that may end up in the loss of a real life.

The game for as long as i have played it and the stories i have heard just promotes death on a real level. Some people are more thick skinned but even the thickest ones get cut every now and then. Games should be for everyone not just for those who can handle insults and back stabs.

So here is how it will end. More people will leave the game and most people take breaks from the game which i highly encourage because no one needs undue stress. Players like me who try to be positive with other players and encourage group activities are the light in this game because i do not see CCP come out in a ship and hang out with random players in the game community. They used to play on Dust514 and the community loved it but i do not hear or see that happening in Eve least not since i started playing. I know that not all games do that either but that is one of the things that makes a game better because you get to share whats on your mind within reason.

Remember That suicide is the result of cause, no help with dealing with it, and the effect.

it is not an illness of the mind. I have studied the contents of John Bellicose posts, and the use of words in relation to the contextual subject matter. Its all there for you to see , but have not the power of SIGHT !

"Not two jumps in, we found an Incursus with his pants down and proceeded to remove said pants entirely" ,

why would anyone, who had not been abused , "who obviously cares for others" use these words to describe the actions of "group activity which centres on the subjugation of a single player " in a virtual reality SpaceGame ? (seek to harm someone perceived as vulnerable). hmm…

Unless they had been abused as a child but was unable because of ( shame) to ask for help…

Now lets put this into a real life situation, If John had been abused as a child or bullyied on a regular basis , and received no help from his parents, then instead of going in and healing from the inside, like Love and acceptance is able to do. he would like many be forced to go outward and then his self realisation growth would begin to manifest in secret, But… he had access to a secret virtual reality spacegame, and there he was able to face his demons in other ways. The inner healing method will resolve the person to realise and accept the TRUTH "That something happened to them as a child, and it was not their fault " . The outward self method is entirely in the other direction If something has bested you, and made you feel worthless or lose respect for yourself, like bullying does, You make it your slave you try to own the very thing that broke you. he used "phrase" PantsDown, in the identificaion of a potential vulnerable Victim, alarm bells ringingin the distance, yup, classic example of repressed torment, The incurses pilot, who was either caught unawares away from authority , or begun an "activity" was unawares that he was being snuck up on, was now being attacked from the rear … to use these words publically in this way is so obvious that none with eyes or minds can perceive the truth which is in front of them . The incurse pilot was outnumbered that is the meaning of pants have down , Its sounding a lot like John may have been subjected to childabuse or repeated bullying John was a troubled person. And its a shame that he was not reached in time. Love can heal you if you let it in. <3
